Art by night by Sarah

The weekend before last I was lucky enough to enjoy a weekend jaunt over to Amsterdam. I was also lucky enough to be in the city during its annual 'Museumnacht' - Museum Night. During this 'Light Night'-esque event, 40 museums, art galleries, botanical gardens, churches, etc... across the city offer special and themed events during the unorthodox hours of 7pm-2am, as well as free transport on the trams and buses. Its also a rare opportunity to enjoy a bevvie or two with art from the likes of Rembrandt and Van Gogh. Bars and djs decks took pride of place next to the watercolours and oils, for one night only!

Even with the great value aside (entry to all 40 museums/galleries cost a mere €17 - including entry to 1 venue at any point in the next month after the night), the evening was truly unique and fun way to see some great places. The event sold out in advance, showing they'd succeeded in their objective of reaching 'young people' (although I hate that phrase!) and encouraging them into all these great places.

Social media also played a key role in the event - with tweet decks linking up all the venues, and iPhone apps giving updates and information.
