RHS Chelsea Flower Show – Clearsilver PR ‘Springs’ into action!

When you think of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, what springs to mind? Flowers, celebrities, the royal family? For me, it’s the very exciting fact that Clearsilver has been enlisted by The Haven to manage the national media outreach for the charity’s first Chelsea garden!

The Breast Cancer Haven Garden, which is being designed by multi-award-winner Sarah Eberle, aims to raise awareness of the physical and emotional support available for breast cancer sufferers and their families. And, not only does the Garden have the renowned Sarah Eberle at the helm, its central focal point is a willow woven oak leaf ‘nest’ created by the very talented, Tom Hare. All in all, we couldn’t have wished for a more perfect collaboration.

PR Account Manager Eve and I headed down to the big smoke (aka London) to chat all things Chelsea with the Haven’s comms team, as well as the sponsor for The Haven’s Garden, Nelsons Natural World. It also created the perfect opportunity to grab a coffee with the RHS press team girls – Aimee & Naomi. Without giving away any spoilers, it’s going to be a pretty exciting press event at the Breast Cancer Haven Garden on the 18th May!

We’ve been working on our media plans for RHS Chelsea since about November 2014. At that point, I had no real clue about gardening. Since then, I’ve become an honouree Chelsea Flower Show buff. I can daily be heard shouting across the office: ‘did you know this…’ and ‘did you know that…’ There’s a great sense of pride that goes with RHS Chelsea, not just from the gardeners and their designs, but from everyone who’s involved – whether that be the RHS and their event’s team to the gardening editors and bloggers writing about the Show, Fresh and Artisan gardens.

Managing the PR for the Breast Cancer Haven Garden has become so much more than my day job; it’s become a passion, an obsession, and I’m genuinely loving every minute.
