So, by now we’re guessing a large majority of you reading this blog post have seen the new Twitter layout. The new design/layout drastically changes the whole look and feel of the micro-blogging platform we have all become so familiar with.
With that in mind we wanted to take a closer look at some of the new features that are designed to change the Twitter user experience for the better.
Large cover photo
The first and most noticeable change your will see in the new Twitter design is the large cover photo which Twitter recommends as 1500px (width) X 500px (height).
Best Tweets & Pinned Tweets
Tweets that have a higher level of interaction/engagement will appear larger on your Twitter profile than less popular posts. You can also now choose content to “pin” at the top of your profile to ensure your followers and new visitors see it. This is a great new feature because Twitter is so fast paced users often miss important posts by brands.
Another change users will notice is how Twitter displays who you are following. It now displays your Twitter following in a Pinteret-esque tiled format which I personally think works well for the platform. It includes the names, profile photo, header image and bio of all the users you are following.
You can now choose the type of content you want to see when viewing another users profile. You can choose from the following options: Tweets, Tweets with photos/videos, or Tweets and replies. This allows you to find the content you want, without having to search through a full timeline.
Additionally to this your stream will now auto-update every 30 seconds so you don’t have to constantly refresh your feed.
As an overall round-up of the new Twitter design, I think that Twitter has definitely made improvements in its overall user experience. I also think that by adding certain design features that are familiar to other social networks it will increase the scope for new user sign up, and adds additional functionality that brands as well as individuals can use to their advantage.
