THEY’VE DONE IT AGAIN – BOX TREE RESTAURANT ILKLEY RETAINS MICHELIN STAR FOR THE FOURTH YEAR RUNNING! 8/01/2008

Simon Gueller at the Box Tree in Ilkley has done it again! Published today, the Michelin Guide has awarded a coveted Michelin Star to Simon for the fourth year in a row in recognition of his skill and expertise in the kitchens of Ilkley’s favourite Box Tree restaurant.

This year’s award sees the Box Tree become the only Michelin Star restaurant in West Yorkshire. Simon and Rena, who opened the Box Tree in Ilkley after extensive refurbishment in September 2004, are delighted at today’s news.

‘To achieve a Michelin Star here at the Box Tree for the fourth year running is very satisfying.’ Head chef Simon commented, ‘This year I think we’ve
worked even harder to ensure the restaurant retains its reputation as one of the best in the country and I’m delighted with this award, which definitely makes all the effort seem worthwhile!’

Simon held a Michelin Star at each of his two previous restaurants, making him the only chef to have achieved Michelin status three times in Yorkshire. In 2007, the restaurant also received a rare rave review from the fiery Marco Pierre White who named the Box Tree as his ‘favourite restaurant in Britain’.

The Box Tree continues to invest in making this unique dining experience the best it can be – redecorating after Christmas to ensure the Box Tree’s grandeur is kept in tip top condition for 2008. ‘The Box Tree is a fantastic restaurant, with a very special character, and both Rena and myself pride ourselves on keeping it looking its best’ added Simon.

The Michelin Guide this year lists just 15 new Michelin one star restaurants. One of the keys to the Michelin Guide’s success is its independence – the Michelin inspectors visit each restaurant in complete anonymity and settle every bill. In fact only 5% of all of the establishments in the guide achieve a Star rating. This guarantees customers an irreplaceable guarantee of reliability.
