Our client, national breast cancer support charity, Breast Cancer Haven, and the #BreastCancerHavenGarden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show was awarded with the competition’s ‘Artisan Garden Gold’ award. We literally could not have been happier.
With so much time, thought, care and preparation invested into the garden from the very beginning, the award means so much for so many people – with the garden symbolising the peace, reassurance and care that can be found for breast cancer service users at Breast Cancer Haven.
This award is garden designer Sarah Eberle’s tenth RHS show gold medal, but for her very first charity garden. Sarah also achieved Gold for her Fresh garden – Beyond our Borders – at the same Show, marking a Chelsea Flower Show first since the prestigious event started in 1913.
Willow sculptor, Tom Hare, designed the beautiful oak leaf nest that sits in the middle of the garden, symbolising the embrace and comfort that service users receive at Breast Cancer Haven.
With Clearsilver responsible for managing the press and media coverage in the run-up to RHS Chelsea, features were secured in Candis, My Weekly and Homes and Gardens, building excitement for the garden’s reveal. With pre-event media seriously hotting up at the end of last week – our PR team turned into the Breast Cancer Haven Garden press office, and secured coverage in major nationals including the Guardian, The Sunday Times, The Daily Express, Mail on Sunday, The Sunday Telegraph and The Telegraph online.
Then, the phone call came. The phone call that told us that the garden was to be featured on the BBC TV coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. You can find the link to the episode here, forward the video to 12:00 to see the Breast Cancer Haven Garden described by the experts!
I was lucky enough to be able to attend the RHS Chelsea press day, to see the garden in real life, and meet and greet the journalists and editors that we’ve been working so closely with in the run-up to the event. The day was AMAZING. It was so surreal to see Jo and Savannah Miller, Anneka Rice, Esther Rantzen and Julian Fellowes sitting on the garden’s oak leaf nest!
We are all absolutely over the moon with this award. So much time has been invested into this project, and it has all been completely worth it. Breast Cancer Haven is a charity that we’ve supported for a long time – and we couldn’t be more proud to have been a part of their journey to RHS Chelsea.
